Fast, easy and delicious ham glaze

The other night I was in full panic mode because I couldn’t find this recipe anywhere!! I resorted to using another recipe I found online but it wasn’t half as good as this one. I went through every single printed recipe I had the next day, (I’m talking two hundred or so) and finally found it. It’s funny how such a simple thing like locating a recipe can make or break your day. As soon as I discovered it inside a green file folder I just knew I had to post it here so it would never get misplaced again. This glaze is easy, smells wonderful and tastes divine! The following amounts are for a small ham, I’d say four pounds or less. Feel free to double the amounts for a larger (8-10 pound) ham.

  • Use 1/4 of water in the pan with the ham
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • 1 Tbsp mustard
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp cloves
  • 2 garlic cloves (I have used garlic powder in the past when I didn’t have real garlic and it tasted great)

Bring all of these ingredients to a simmer until the brown sugar has dissolved (about 2 minutes). Reduce heat to low and add in the garlic. Allow it to become fragrant, cooking for a further minute or two until the glaze just begins to simmer, then set it aside and let it cool to lukewarm. The glaze should be the consistency of room-temperature honey). After 30 minutes of baking time at 300 degrees, carefully remove the ham from the oven and increase the temperature to 425. Pour 1/3 of the glaze over the ham, brushing in between the cuts to cover it evenly. Return to the oven and bake uncovered for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, brush with another third of the glaze and some pan juices, and repeat again after 15 more minutes. Let the ham rest for 10-20 minutes before slicing.
